as entering freshmen we feel as if Senior year is an eternity away, that “Reality” was just a joke, and we could care less about how our actions impact our future. But as we go on into 10th, 11th, and 12th grade you suddenly see yourself about to graduate and wonder were the past four years went. We start realizing that time forgives no one, and it does not tell us to grow up, we face the decision either to stay immature or become more mature people. We suddenly start paying attention to our parents, because they were right all along…
We remember all the endless nights that your parents yelled at you to do your homework, to get your grades up. We remember the endless efforts to try to keep you inside the house on a weekend to spend time together or to study for a midterm or finally, and we remember how resistant we became to grow up. As we enter this new world, be look back with tears in our eyes, pleading to not let go. As we become a few inches away from the “real world” we become accostumed to become silent when people hurt us, and just smile and say that we are “ok.”
We are so much stronger than what each of us believe, and I think that is why we all start talking to each other and start forgiving, and begin to worry about our futures. We come to see how mistaken we were about those “friends,” and then you find your true friends and realize that before them you were looking in the wrong spot. We begin to see ourselves.
As we write in each others yearbooks, we are all letting go of our heart, putting a little piece of it on a page with ink on it, saying “to keep in touch” and “how great of friends we are.” We read with tears on our eyes, remembering our falls and our ups, we remember how we became what we are today.
Walking onto that football stadium with a toga on, seems like a dream something that will still take some time to happen, we dream about it. But its time to wake up, because we are just about to enter the stadium with a cheerful crowd, awaiting to receive our template on life.
That food fight today in lunch… that shit went down.
